Season 7 is the penultimate season of the series bringing together the heroes of the realm as they attempt to either clash amongst themselves or work against the common enemy of the dead. The White Walkers are coming as has been known for a long time and now they just continue to amass their army. This is a big season for the show as it's shorter than usual, took longer to release and is whipping through content at an alarming rate. For a show that took its time to perfectly showcase stories and create extra tension, that is certainly not present in this season. It still has moments of intense heart attacks where someone could be killed and so many epic moments. It just showcases them so quickly that you almost don't get the full impact.
I feel as though they've just blown through what could have been a couple more seasons of content. It speeds even further towards the last couple episodes and while they're longer in length, characters are jumping everywhere. You get those intense moments of discussion, passion or war but you lose some of the journey. One second a character is in one spot and the next scene they're on the other side of the continent, it's fast. It's hard to be mad though when the show is just so perfect and it's doing everything you want it to. That adds some predictability, but the scale and the quality here is beyond anything else that it's up against. The crucial war scenes were colossal, the dragons were damn realistic and the sense of large scale conflict was absolute.
With so much going on, it's almost hard to cover it all. Major characters came and went, new alliances were drawn with everyone coming together. There were so many epic ensemble moments as the largest of the roster came face to face. The one adventure up north was epic and I never thought I'd see so many massive names in one spot as we were graced with at the end. It's still very much a show about the families and particularly the Starks. The sub-plots for the most part were great and it's nice to see so many people meeting up again after so long. Huge plot points from past seasons were explored with so many theories getting confirmations. With the sense of scale many of the scenes were just gorgeous and unlike the past it felt that everything was of the highest quality. This show has certainly been given some care and it shines here. The actors are all hitting full stride and completely embracing the roles and it's nice to see them all performing so perfectly. I would point out certain hit characters but with such a large grouping that would be too hard.
Game of Thrones Season 7 was awesome, it fulfilled many of my desires for the series and really pushed events along. I can't tell if I'm disappointed by how fast the events went along or happy that it wasn't slowed. It's hard to make that choice, but honestly the whole thing was excellent. The quality in the show is superb with epic battles that no other show could come close to matching. The battle scenes felt epic, yet dark with some of the fire filled skirmishes providing an intense effect. There were some interesting moves from various characters in the show and I still felt a sense of question in just what everyone was going to do. That's always been the magic in Game of Thrones, never knowing for sure if anyone is safe. The right plots were closed, moved forward and basically shifted around for what should lead to one hell of an ending in season 8.
